Edge of Liberty Craft Fair - June 19, 2022 - Father's Day

2022-06-11

James and I were reminiscing the other day about our dads, and realized that much of who we are and what we believe came from the example of these similar but dramatically different guys. One immigrant, one descended from early settlers - both hard-working men who loved their wives, loved people in their community, and did their best to love their children (and we both admit that neither of us made that easy on them). They were both gardeners - one a double digger and one that was practically attached to his tiller - but both so very proud of their tomatoes and grapes. They both loved the outdoors - one poking a fire at a camp site, the other dropping a fishing line into a lake. Neither one of us could ever figure out what to give them for Father's Day while they were alive, but we now both realize that the present they wanted most of all, any day of the year, was presence. Walking together on a hiking trail, scavenging finds at a flea market, checking out booths at a festival, eating together - barely talking but occasionally sharing wonder at simple things like a frog jumping in a pond, discovering deer tracks, or watching a tomato grow.

Give your dad a present he will truly cherish - give him presence and bring him to The Edge of Liberty Craft Fair!

This is our second Craft Fair for the 2022 season - and if you enjoyed the one in May, you're going to love this one. We've doubled the number of vendors and added a food truck with plenty of places to sit and enjoy lunch.

This is a great opportunity to support your entrepreneurial neighbors and invest in our community. Tell your friends to meet you here. Enjoy lunch at our picnic tables near the pond where ducks, geese, sandhill cranes, and eagles have been lunching all spring. Tour our perennial pollinator garden, our market garden, and see what your neighbors have done with their plots so far in our community garden.

Since the Porter County Master Gardener's Garden Walk last year (tickets for this year's walk click here), over a thousand people have walked through our gardens and shopped local with our home-based art and craft vendors and at our farm stand. We've loved meeting all of you and hope to see you again at our next event. We have some new vendors with amazing products to create happiness in your home. Come celebrate life with us!

Where are you? We're conveniently located on old 49 (Calumet) a mile north of Valparaiso and a mile south of the drive-in theater, right on the edge of Liberty Township.

What crafts will be available? Click the link to see a slideshow of products available at this and prior events. Committed vendors for this event and information about their products are detailed below with links to their personal pages.

All vendors either accept credit cards personally, or can accept payments through our "Pay With Paypal" button on our home page, but would prefer cash.

About Us

The Edge of Liberty is a four acre farm that we purchased because the neighborhoods surrounding it wanted to preserve the rural feeling of Liberty Township and stop it from being developed. Since it was a community effort to keep it rural, we want the community to get a chance to enjoy it...together! Events and services at The Edge of Liberty are centered around creating and maintaining a sense of community and preserving that hometown rural feeling that made us all fall in love with this area. In addition to the community garden that we started last season and a weekly farm stand of produce grown in our market and pollinator gardens to help defray costs of maintaining the property, we're providing this monthly outlet for members of the community to sell their handmade goods and to give you an opportunity to share good times with friends and neighbors. Help us celebrate life and create happiness! Join us on Father's Day!
